I was born in a western culture and way of life, but every time I go out in the wilderness, my entire being feel so free. After returning to the city life, I start to feel tense and stressful. When I lived in Southeast Asia off-and-on for a total of 18 years, I loved visiting the jungle and rural areas of the countries I lived in whereat there was no electricity. They got their freshwater by manually pumping water from ground wells. They would boil it for safety sake. The air was always crispy fresh in the mountain regions.
I don't feel as liberal to walk about here in the states as I did in foreign countries, even in federal parks where I should feel safe. With the environment being so toxic in America today, I feel someone would probably call the authorities on me just for being black, yes, in our own national parks. And I can't travel too far in rural towns as I'll probably get shot just for being black as well, needless to say. Why do I feel this way: well, to start, I often visit national parks out in the Pacific Northwest and Pacific Southwest almost every spring, and when I make reservations in very small rural towns, sometimes 50 to 125 miles one way from the national park we're visiting, white people seem to be taken by surprise as I would be the only black person with my Asian wife in the area. In some places the locals were somewhat friendly; in other places the locals weren't so friendly to me mostly.
My apology to whomever is offended by what I said above as I had to disclose this bit of negative information. I was allowed to travel to many exclusive places overseas and observed how the surviving indigenous people live who were the first occupiers of the land in some of the Asian countries, but I feel uneasy traveling in remote places in my own country, a country I served in its military for 26 years. My wife even notice the negative stares she get treated when in my company--sad!

Please my foreigner friends don't assume this is all of Africa because am using a mac in Africa to type this to you. I know what your are thinking; how the heck can I afford a Mac. Your donation money maybe, please don't assume that also. Africa is different A few miles to any direction people have different values and merits . We have diverse cultures and about 2000 languages without counting dialects. I say this because when I travel I am asked odd questions by people in other nations. I don't look down on people or get offend because those questions are out of a friendly curiosity .
