Lexus has carved its crossover nx into an even more edgy looking room for 2018. This is the mid-cycle refresh time for the popular compact luxury SUV, and the visual changes are
accompanied by a name change for the standard model as well as some chassis adjustments and improved interior space.
The standard NX, formerly known as NX200T, which is a logical name given its 2.0 liter turbo engine, now has the NX300 moniker less useful. The engine is the same and it will certainly continue to forward its performance through a six-speed automatic transmission and either before or all drive wheels.
The hybrid model retains its NX300h nomenclature, and its gas-electric motorization is also unchanged.
If you did not like the polarizing NX face before, you probably won't like its new, which keeps the big brooch grille and headlights heavily crumpled.
There are some new air intakes at the front, with new wheel designs, slightly thinner taillights, and a converted rear bumper. A sports option F package is available again; It turns aggressiveness with its black mesh grids and various wheels.
Interior upgrades are subtle and include a new metal finish for several redesigned knobs, handles and HVAC controls. A larger 10.3-inch central screen is new optional; It is controlled by a revamped remote touchpad that we hope will improve on the frustrating interface of the current model. A motion sensor for opening the electric tailgate has been added to the available functions.
Lexus said it retuned the suspension for a better turn-in and a softer ride. Adaptive shocks are another new addition – they will probably cost extra – and there is more healthy amortization that should help with noise isolation.
The active security features, including the front collision warning, the adaptive cruise control and the start alert are now standard on every NX.
Expect the revision of Lexus NX to go on sale later this year, probably with a slight price increase compared to the current model $36 260 entry point.
